If you weren't able to attend the Meet the Teacher meeting on Monday 5th June, here are the slides I used. Any questions, either email me on crowtherh@primroselane.leeds.sch.uk or we can arrange a meeting.
Please see the documents below for our times tables. Remember you can complete your challenges on purple mash as well to help you improve!
We couldn't keep the Mr Men and Little Misses off the catwalk! Watch them strut their stuff...
We went to Reception to read our Mr Men books and to let the children play with our new toys. It was a huge success - the books and toys went down really well!
Year 3 have composed a theme tune for the Mr Men film. We came up with a chord progression and played around with different melodies. When the tune was set, we wrote lyrics together. It's so impressive - we hope you like it!
Mr Men Theme TuneYear 3 have worked incredibly hard - in a fortnight, we have planned and written a Mr Men book, created a soft toy to go with the book. We are making a film of a Mr Men Fashion Show where each character will take to the red carpet and we EVEN composed our own theme tune! Seriously talented children!
We have been refreshing our time-telling skills from Year 2 with Mrs Detis. We've remembered a lot! Our working wall for maths is full of time facts, too!
In Year 3, we are preparing for the Speaking Competition. We are in groups and have already structured our talks with a planning sheet. Now it's time to research. Today we raided the school library and are taking useful notes from the variety of books we chose. Using the Dewey Decimal System to locate our non fiction books made it easier; it was easy to find them when we knew the number of the section.
Later, we used the laptops to find out more!
Y3 are learning about money this week so they all went to Mrs Detis' shop to practise finding amounts of money. They each chose three items and found the total. (There were lots of smiles and lots of learning in disguise as fun!)
Mr Simpson led a Commando Fitness session on the Commando field. Following a warm up, the children worked together to complete several endurance tasks - stamina and determination, the order of the day. Well done, Year 3!
Year 3 have been looking at different types of nappies to aid them working scientifically to investigate. The children have been looking at different brands of nappy to determine which ones are the most absorbent to help Mrs Dealtry-Dawson decide which nappy is the best for her baby. The children thought of what questions they could investigate to help determine the best one. They concluded overall that the best nappy was the Aldi brand nappies.
The children loved sharing more about their favourite books and dressing up as book characters. Here are a few of their wonderful outfits
The children have been learning about the meaning of Easter in their RE lessons with Mrs Crowther. All the children tried very hard with the Easter Bunny Dash and ran as much as they could! Here are some of their Easter egg competition entries. They did so well!
So many of the children have progressed through our times tables challenges and become secure with their 3,4 and 8 times table that we are now working on our 6 times table. Enjoy!
Year 3 have worked incredibly hard on their partitioning skills to help them with multiplying a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We have now started to look at the inverse of multiplication. The children have found this hard at first but are steadily improving the steps needed to be able to use the base ten equipment to help them. This will be our focus into next week to enable us to become more secure with our method for division.
Year 3 have been working hard on improving the speed of their multiplication and division recall facts. One way we really enjoy doing this is through songs. Here is our class effort at working on the 4 times table! Keep up the hard work Year 3! So many of you are improving your scores and moving up levels each week we do our times table tests!
The children in Year 3 have remembered so much from our recorder lessons in Year 2; we have ready hit the ground running. Here is a video of our performance of Warrior Song which uses our new note E. (We now use both hands to make different notes!). We look forward to playing in Live Music this half term!
Year 3 were fantastic at their first Orienteering session. They showed fantastic team work and listened really well to all of the instructions in order to be successful. They've already shown a lot of stamina and improved map reading skills just from our first session. They were very proud of their times for the various routes and worked very hard to complete the challenges put to them. Amazing effort Year 3!
Year 3 have been learning all about circuits and the different components to a circuit. We have explored complete and incomplete circuits and the children also looked at how the wires affected whether the bulb lit or not. They were so focused during our investigations and many of them were surprised by their predictions and results. Next we will be exploring symbols and understanding more about switches.
Year 3 have really been working hard developing their times tables recall. We have been looking at ways to help us improve and one of the ways Mrs Dealtry- Dawson and Year 3 love is through songs. We hope you enjoy our singing and actions. It is really helping us become more confident with our 8 times table facts! This is to a song you may recognise by Adele
Year 3 have utilised Purple Mash to aid their science learning about muscles and the skeleton. In addition we have undertaken a survey in year 3 around appliances used linking to our most recent science learning Electricity. The children then converted their tally into bar charts using purple mash. We learnt about how to use spreadsheets and what the data showed us. It was good to see the way the children developed their understanding mathematically about the data and what it showed as well as improving their spreadsheet skills on 2graph.
Here is a video of us in action during Martial Arts! Mrs Dealtry-Dawson was really impressed with our respectful behaviour and have a go attitude!
The children worked tirelessly throughout our Marital Arts lesson. They were so focused and learnt some moves and sounds that went with them. I think every child had a smile on their face at some point during the lesson. It was wonderful to see the enjoyment on their faces. Well done Year 3... some super moves!
The children are working so hard on their writing and making great improvements in terms of the handwriting, quality and quantity. Here are just some of the wonderful pieces that they've produced. We will keep adding more here as we progress through the term. Keep it up Year 3 and remember to always try your best with your handwriting!
The children have really enjoyed learning more about Aboriginal Art alongside understanding more about artists such as Martha McDonald. They've developed their understanding geographically of Australia and developed their artistic skills. Take a look at their dot paintings. Great job Year 3!
Year 3 have been working hard on some silhouette art work as a way to remember those who fought in the wars. The children listened intently on how to use the water colours in order to successfully create a sunset. They then utilised templates to help them to complete their silhouettes.
Year 3 have really enjoyed their class novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of their favourite characters has been Willy Wonka. We have looked at developing our shading and sketching skills by drawing some of the characters.
Year 3 have been enjoying their class novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. What better trip to go on than to visit York’s Chocolate Story! The children were fantastically behaved and really impressed me!rnrnThe children at various points throughout the day were able to take part on a tour of York’s Chocolate Story itself learning more about the origin of cocoa beans, the process of making chocolate and some of the significant families in York and the UK for making chocolate as we know it today. The children were very impressed with the magical window revealing a large amount of quality streets on show as well as the educational videos they were able to watch as part of the tour. I don’t think they expected to see such a range of kit kat wrappers and flavours either! As part of our visit we took part in some scientific workshops where we had to wear our hair nets and protective gloves. rnrnrnrnrnrnWe learnt more about the processes linked to our states of matter learning of chocolate going from solids to liquids and liquid to solid. In addition we learnt about the process and ingredients involved in making chocolate. To put this to the test we then created our own chocolate bars and chocolate lollies. rnAnother key part of our day was exploring the city of York with famous sights such as The Shambles and Clifford’s Tower. The children were set challenges to find human and physical geography features throughout York as well as visiting key places linked to key people such as Joseph Rowntree and Mary Ann Craven. A very proud moment for their exemplary behaviour was at the church we visited where the children were impeccable and so respectful and quiet. rnrnrnIt was truly a wonderful day and the children did brilliantly with their walking, learning, listening and team work. We thought they may be a bit tired on the return home but our singing voices were in full flow on the coach! What a wonderful trip Year 3!rnrn
Year 3 have been celebrating Roald Dahl day this week as it would have been Roald Dahl’s birthday on Tuesday 13th September. We have started reading our class novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and have learnt more about Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake the illustrator for Roald Dahl’s books. In addition we have done a number of activities linked to Roald Dahl including creating some beards using natural materials like Mr Twit.
Here are some of the children’s thoughts:
Harvey and Milly – I enjoyed looking at the website and learning more about Roald Dahl.
Ciaran – The Twits is a funny silly book but also extremely gruesome. I would definitely recommend reading it!
Lillie – My favourite book is the BFG
Zoe – I am enjoying reading Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
Isla – I enjoyed learning about Roald Dahl because it is so interesting and my new favourite book is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
Jasmine – I love chocolate so I know Charlie and The Chocolate Factory will be great!
Lucy – I liked Roald Dahl day because we got to do lots of activities.
Year 3 have been working hard to improve their place value understanding in maths. As part of our learning we have been doing some place value hopscotch with hundreds, tens and ones (HTO) and we then progressed to knowing thousands came next (TH) would be next. We had to partition numbers in the expanded form and use chalk to draw which base ten we would need.
